چکیده
The Calmette--Guerin Bacillus (BCG), an attenuated live strain of Mycobacterium bovis was originally developed by Albert Leon Charles Calmette and Camile Guerin in 1925 as a vaccine for tuberculosis. At the present, BCG is widely used as a complementary therapy for superficial bladder neoplasms. This treatment is considered to be safe and well tolerated although local and distal complications may appear. In 2003, Diaz et al. reported in the Spanish language, for the first time, a case of unilateral infection of the parotid gland caused by BCG. We reviewed the English literature from 1975 to 2015 and found no other cases of such infection, as it is extremely rare. In this article we report a well-documented case of a bilateral infection of the

One of rare complications is gran...
متن کاملTuberculous Granuloma in the Scrotal Skin After Intravesical Bacillus Calmette-Guerin Therapy for Bladder Cancer: A Case Report
Rare cases of tuberculous urinary tract or genital infection caused by intravesical Intravesical Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) instillation therapy have been reported. We encountered a patient with tuberculous granuloma in the scrotal skin after intravesical BCG therapy for bladder cancer. There was evidence of infection in the scrotal skin, but not in the epididymis. To the best of our knowle...
متن کاملPancreatic and psoas abscesses as a late complication of intravesical administration of bacillus Calmette-Guerin for bladder cancer: a case report and review of the literature
INTRODUCTION Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) is a live attenuated strain of Mycobacterium bovis that has been used to treat urothelial carcinoma since 1976, and has been reported to eradicate disease in more than 70% of patients with in situ and stage I disease. To the best of our knowledge, we report the first case of disseminated bacillus Calmette-Guerin infection causing multiple abscesses af...
متن کاملTuberculous Spondylitis following Intravesical Bacillus Calmette-Guerin for Bladder Cancer
We present a rare case of tuberculous spondylitis following intravesical Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) therapy for bladder cancer. An 82-year-old man presented with low back pain. Past medical history revealed bladder cancer diagnosed and treated 16 months previously by intravesical BCG. Magnetic resonance imaging of the thoracic spine showed destruction of the T5 and T6 vertebrae and an epidu...
متن کاملProsthetic Joint Infection due to Mycobacterium bovis after Intravesical Instillation of Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG)
Intravesical instillation of Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) is a treatment to prevent recurrence of superficial urothelial bladder carcinoma. Complications after bladder instillation of BCG have been reported including locally invasive and systemic infections due to dissemination of Mycobacterium bovis from the bladder. We present an uncommon case and literature review of prosthetic joint infec...
